Desktop Support Technician
This Desktop Support technician will be responsible for building computers, troubleshooting PC's, supporting users, imaging computers, and desktop connectivity support.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Background:
- Basic Windows desktop installation/configuration/support (primarily XP and Windows7)
- Advanced Windows desktop administration (deep knowledge of network settings, services, and other configuration options, relevant active directory functionality, registry editing, etc)
- Microsoft Office installation/configuration/support
- Windows Server 2003/2008 installation/configuration/maintenance
- Experience with virus/malware scanning software as well as fixing the cases where it fails
- An understanding of and experience with basic TCP/IP networking concepts/components such as addressing/subnets, routing, switches, firewalls, VPNs
- Knowledge of system imaging technologies and experience in their use
- A good understanding of desktop and server computer hardware
- Experience troubleshooting hardware problems at the component level and performing component replacement
- An understanding of development tools (compilers, source control systems, etc.) and issues related to their use
- An understanding of and experience remedying system performance problems
- Experience with Remote Control software
- An understanding of the differences between 32-bit and 64-bit applications and operating systems, their practical implications, as well as experience dealing with the problems of a mixed environment
- Experience writing non-trivial scripts in one or more scripting languages
- Experience assembling new systems from parts
- Experience determining hardware requirements and designing system configurations to most effectively/economically meet a particular need
- MySQL administration
- Apache administration
- VMWare usage and administration
