Steve Herbst: President

Steve has over 28 years in the Technology industry that includes executive management, sales management and technical project management. Steve founded SECURE ITnet in 1996 and he has spent the last 15 years focusing on building SECURE ITnet to a leading Managed Services Provider and Security Consulting Firm. His objective is to provide small and mid-sized businesses with the technical assistance they need from a firm they can count on to be responsive, competent, affordable and trustworthy. “ I see it as our responsibility to help companies and organizations find ways to utilize technology to grow their business; not be a constraint to their business. Too many times I have seen poor IT practices in companies be ‘accepted’ because they were not aware of what capabilities existed.” On the Board of several organizations and active in a number of industry focus groups, Mr. Herbst is very in touch with the direction of the industry and current and upcoming technology. Prior to founding SECURE ITnet, Steve held executive management positions with a national security consulting company, a national IT staffing company and a global IT training company.

Kimberly McGuire: Executive Assistant to President

Kim has recently joined the Secure ITnet team as an Executive Assistant to CEO, Steve Herbst. Although originally from Minnesota, Kim has spent the last 8 years living in Nevada and working as a personal assistant to a reality broker. It was a great experience but has returned to the Midwest to be close to family. She also has experience working in the IT and Insurance industry and will bring a wealth of knowledge to Secure ITnet. Kim will oversee office coordination and work with Steve on additional projects. Through her experiences, she has gained an interest in the IT industry and would like to pursue a degree in that discipline. Kim enjoys traveling, spending time with family, friends and her dogs. She has a Great Dane and a Chihuahua and loves taking them on walks.

Joel Helgeson: Technical Services Director

Joel has an extensive background working in the areas of networking and security for over 20 years including time working at Cisco Systems and Spanlink Communications on Enterprise Projects. Joel has lead projects and teams on enterprise wide implementation on such areas as Active Directory Implementations, Exchange Upgrades, MPLS and network upgrades. As an expert level consultant in many areas, he is able to guide the technicians to make sure that when issues are found the best and most cost effective solutions are implemented. Working with new technology Joel is always finding solutions that can improve the results for our clients. Joel is currently serving on the Small Business Administration Information Security Task Force, which was established by the Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure act of 2009 (P.L. 111-24). Joel also is a professional speaker, trainer and security auditor working on a number of Ultra large and secure networks doing forensics and loss mitigation.

Theresa Larkin: Marketing Director

Theresa is a graduate from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Marketing, Management and Spanish. Throughout the years, Theresa has gained valuable marketing skills and insight through various marketing, event planning, and brand ambassador positions. While living in Spain for six months, Theresa had the opportunity to work with local companies by implementing new strategies and providing feedback on their marketing and sales tactics. She is continually trying to learn and grow from her experiences to ensure modern day tactics are being used.
